#15. Emmy Rossum

The actress revealed in a lengthy Facebook post on August 30 that she would be leaving Shameless after season 9. The news was confirmed by the show runner John Wells.

“It is always bittersweet when an ensemble member decides to move out of the proverbial house, but our door will always remain open for Fiona (Rossum’s character) to return home for a visit, or to move back in. I look forward to continuing the stories of this wildly unpredictable family and all of us on Shameless will miss Emmy and her wonderful Fiona,” John Wells confessed.

#14. Monica Reymund

Gabriela Dawson will not return to Chicago Fire. Raymund revealed that she has decided to leave the show following season 6. Derek Haas, the co-creator, wrote in his tweeter that he still has hope she’ll appear again in the show.

 “I have made the decision that it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in life,” Raymund wrote in a goodbye letter in May 2018.

#13. Sophia Bush

Without clearly explaining her decision, the lead of Chicago P.D suddenly left the show after season 4. She gave some hints of her decision in October 2017 when she responded to a fan question on Instagram: “I left because I wanted to. End of story” and in a podcast where she said that she would eventually tell her whole story.

“I had to respect myself in a situation where I didn’t feel respected,” Bush said in December.

#12. Pauley Perrette

Perrette played the role of Abby Scuito on NCIS and after 15 seasons on it, she stepped away from her role and her character left town. In October 2017, she said it was her decision to leave the show. In multiple tweets, she implied that physical assaults led her to make an exit.

“I’ve been supporting anti-bullying programs forever. But now I KNOW because it was ME! If it’s school or work, that you’re required to go to? It’s horrifying. I left. Multiple Physical Assaults. I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone,” Perrete wrote in May 2018.

#11. Shemar Moore

Moore  played the role of Derek Morgan for 11 years on CBS’ Criminal Minds. He revealed in an interview that he decided to leave the show because he wanted to continue to grow as an actor. His fans were sad to say goodbye but they hope to see him again making a guest appearance in the show.

“I’m leaving to see what else I’m capable of,” Moore confessed.

#10. Nina Dobrev

Dobrev stepped away from her leading role as Elena Gilbert on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries after season 6. She revealed that she wanted to stop playing teenager roles. Despite this fact, she came back for the series finale of season 8.

“I don’t want to play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories and that has meant being really picky,” she revealed.

#9. Amy Carlson

Carlson had decided to leave Blue Bloods after her seven-season contract ended. The season 8 premiere revealed that Carlson’s character, Linda Raegan, had died in an helicopter crash. This news surprised not only fans of the show but everybody.

“It’s always a difficult decision,” she told Us Weekly in November 2017.

#8. Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park

Due to a pay dispute, Daniel Dae kim and Grace Park decided to walk away from the show after season 7. Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua did not appear in season 8 of the CBS drama Hawaii Five-O.

In July 2017 the showrunner, Peter Lenkov, commented on their exits on Twitter:Both actors chose not to extend their contracts. CBS was extremely generous and proactive in their renegotiation talks. So much so, the actors were getting unprecedented raises, but in the end they chose to move on. No one wanted to see them go–they are irreplaceable.”

#7. Erinn Hayes

Hayes played Kevin James’s character wife in the show Kevin Can Wait. For season 2 James couldn’t come up with a story line so he decided to kill off Hayes’s character. James’ former King of Queens costar Leah Remini was the one who later replaced Hayes in the show.

“We were literally just running out of ideas,” James told the New York Daily News.

#6. Connie Britton

Britton had played Rayna James for five seasons when she decided to walk away from ABC’s Nashville. At the time she didn’t want to go into great detail about her decision but she told the Hollywood Reporter that she felt that the timing was important and that her number one priority was the show and making sure that it was done great.

#5. Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew

Capshaw and Drew played the roles of Arizona Robbins and April Kepner on the show Grey’s Anatomy. In 2018, ABC Revealed that Robbins and Kepner would be leaving the show following season 14. As this was a shocking turn of events, after the announcement the showrunner Krista Vernoff explained her reasoning in Twitter: “It felt right creatively to wrap up their stories.”

#4. Kim Dickens

Dickens said that it was heartbreaking to find out that her character was taken off from the show. Her time on the show ended when Madison was shockingly killed in the season 4 mid-season finale of Fear The Walking Dead. Dickens told Entertainment Weekly that the decision of the producers was shocking and disappointing to her.

#3. Michael Wheatherly

Wheatherly played the role of Tony in the show NCIS but after this season, fans of the show will no longer enjoy his unique sense of humor and dapper suits. The actor is a member of the original cast and has been part of the show for 13 seasons.

#2. Andrew Lincoln

Lincoln played the leading role of Rick in The Walking Dead but after season 9 he will no longer be part of the show. He announced his departure from the show at Comic-Con, this announcement allowed the fans to make peace with the loss of such an iconic character. It seems he’s had enough of it and wants to focus his energy on movies

#1. Patrick Dempsey

This departure was the most heartbreaking of all. Dempsey played Dr. Derek Shepherd on the popular drama Grey’s Anatomy but he was killed off in a grisly car accident in season 11. Mr McDreamy, as Shepherd was called, died in hospital incapable of treating his injuries and left fans reeling.
