As most gamers know THQ has a lot riding on the success of Darksiders II. The game is supposed to come out in early summer. But there has been some disturbing recent news.
As of right now its possible Darksiders II has been delayed, gamers everywhere are praying its not canceled. An interview with THQ EVP Danny Bilson revealed that THQ can no longer confirm the release date of July 26. This could be dire news, as THQ’s stocks have fallen to $0.50 a share and the company is under notice from Nasdaq. THQ needs to get their shares above a $1.00 before a July 23rd deadline. A delay like this might not make it possible for the company to recover.
2011 wasn’t all bad news for THQ. two of their other games — Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Saints Row 3 — were THQ’s biggest successes of 2011. Both of those games received great reviews and Saints Row 3 sold 3.8 million units by the end of January 2012.
Darksiders II could save the company if it sells a few million copies at least. If Darksiders II doesn’t sell well, this might mean the end for THQ. The first Darksiders sold well. From the previews of the second game it appears to be a lot of fun with much of the same mechanics of the first games. The summer is pretty light on blockbuster releases. The only two potential competitors in June and July are Spec Ops: The Line and the new Amazing Spider Man game. Summer months are usually slow for video games and by opting to release Darksiders II here, THQ can avoid the overcrowded fall rush. Hopefully everything works out for Darksiders II’s release date.
