Choose the Right Haircut For You

For years I could never find the right haircut for me. I always ended up hating what I had gotten done, so, I stuck to what I usually got and was just “okay” with. Now, I have the right answers each time, and I can always change it up when I feel like my hairstyle is starting to get old.

When you’re deciding on a new haircut, the key to a good outcome is finding a hairstyle that works with your faceshape. If you don’t know what your faceshape is, that’s okay. You can find a chart of all the different faceshapes on Google. Just go to Google and up at the top there should be a link that says “Images,” click on it and then type “faceshape” into the search engine. Most likely your search will come back with a chart that has the many different faceshapes drawn on it and labeled.

To figure out by measurements what your faceshape is, grab a measuring tape or ruler.

  1. Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones and write it down.
  2. Measure across your jaw line from the widest point to the widest point, write it down.
  3. Measure across your forehead at the widest point (halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline), write it down.
  4. Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom of your chin.

These are the different types of faceshapes and what styles go best with them.

  • Oval Face – The length is equal to one and a half times width.Honestly, the oval shape goes good with just about any style. It’s the most diverse in a great way. However, avoid bangs, they cover too many features. So now you just have to decide if you think you should have a short, medium or long cut.
  • Round Face – Your face is as wide as it is long. This is good with fullness and height at the crown. Short hair styles with a swept back direction, or hair styles that are longer than your chin.
  • Oblong – Longer than it is wide. This is best with short to medium lengths. Not too choppy on the sides. Soft wispy bangs help you in equaling the length out. If you go with something long, it will make your face look longer than it already is.
  • Heart – Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones and forehead, or both. Try short hair that balances your jaw line. A little taper at the jaw. Lots of layers!
  • Round Face – Your face is as wide as it is long. Oblong – Longer than it is wide.
  • Square – your face is about as wide as it is long. You want to try short to medium. Wispy bangs. Off center parts, height at the crown. Here you should do a cut right at the chin or longer styles. Side parted hair styles always look good. You can even try some wispy bangs.
  • Diamond -Widest at cheekbones, narrow jaw line and forehead of equal widths. You are blessed like the oval. Almost everything works with your face. You can wear shorter styles, achieving more balance with cheekbones and chin line.

Other than your faceshape you also need to determine the texture of your hair. Is it naturally wavy, curly, or straight? Thin, thick, or in between?

Doing this will help you determine what kind of style is best for your face and hair types. If you follow these simple steps, then you’ll be able to figure out just which hairstyle will do you wonders.
