Over the past several years, turkey has gained enormous popularity. As meats go, it is probably the best healthy choice you can make. For some, it’s not about the ‘healthy’ side of turkey, it’s about the fact that it just tastes better than beef! Turkey is less greasy; it cooks faster and can be used anywhere that you use ground beef. Here are the simple steps to easy garlic turkey burgers.
Things You’ll Need:
- Ground turkey
- Fresh garlic
- Garlic salt
- Hamburger buns
- Sharp cheddar cheese, slices
- Swiss cheese, slices
- Garnishments such as tomatoes, lettuce, onion, mayo, mustard, ketchup
Use regular lean ground turkey. Do NOT use the extra lean as it is too dry. Ground turkey comes packaged in approximately one pound packages. You can make two giant half pound burgers from one package or you can seperate it into four burgers. The bigger the better!
Put about one half inch of water into a non-stick frying pan. Set aside.
Peel your garlic cloves. Use about 8 cloves for one pound of turkey. Garlic lovers cut the cloves in half. You can cut the garlic into smaller pieces if you choose. Mix the garlic pieces into the ground turkey. Mix using your hands. Make sure the garlic is evenly distributed.
Turn your pan of water on medium-high heat. Patty your burgers into the size of your choice.
Place the patties into the pan. Season with garlic salt and pepper to taste. Remember this is salt, not powder. Don’t over salt but be generous. Cover and ‘fry’ on medium-high heat. Be aware that ground turkey cooks more rapidly than ground beef. Flip and season the other side.
When burgers are done, drain the remaining water. Top each burger with a slice of sharp cheddar and a slice of Swiss cheese. Cover and allow cheese to melt.
Place on burger bun and garnish as desired.
Additional option: In a medium pan, melt 3 tablespoons of oleo. Wash mushrooms and slice into melted oleo. Slice onions into mixture. Lightly season with Season All. Saute’ until onions are translucent. Garnish each burger with the mushroom onion mixture.
