How to Read Tarot Cards – 01 – The Magician (Reversed)

This is an article in a series on how to read the Tarot Cards. This series contains an in depth look at each of the cards’ possible interpretations within a reading in context of their position. I will be using the Celtic Cross spread.

The Magician (Reversed) On His Own

The Magician (Reversed) on his own is a weak young man. The Magician (Reversed) has no direction in his life, and little resources at his disposal. He tends to be the shy and quiet type, but can occasionally burst out with adolescent type anger.

1. The Magician (Reversed) as the Center

The Magician (Reversed) as the Center suggests confusion and near ignorance surrounds the situation. What the receiver knows is very little of the overall big picture, and there wouldn’t be much he could do about it if he did know.

2. The Magician (Reversed) as the Obstacle

The Magician (Reversed) as the Obstacle suggests the receiver has no idea why this situation is occurring. It seems to have come out of the blue, although the situation is a direct result of his actions.

The Magician (Reversed) as the Super-Conscious suggests the receiver doesn’t have much faith in the situation. It depresses him, because he feels helpless and lost.

4. The Magician (Reversed) as the Recent Future

The Magician (Reversed) as the Recent Future suggests the receiver is stepping blindly into his future, and he’s not ready for what he’s getting into. These choices will directly effect the situation, if they not already are.

5. The Magician (Reversed) as the Subconscious

The Magician (Reversed) as the Subconscious suggests the receiver is trying to grasp the situation, but doesn’t quite. He doesn’t have the sense to ask the right questions, so all of his ideas stem from misinformation and flat out ignorance.

6. The Magician (Reversed) as the Recent Past

The Magician (Reversed) as the Recent Past suggests the receiver hasn’t demonstrated much control of the situation from the beginning. Either he was lazy about the situation, or he couldn’t be bothered enough to take an interest.

7. The Magician (Reversed) as the Receiver

The Magician (reversed) as the Receiver suggests the receiver is confused about his life. He doesn’t know where he wants to go, nor what he really wants.

8. The Magician (Reversed) as the Influence

The Magician (Reversed) as the Influence suggests following the suggestions of “lower minds.” He does know what’s best for the situation, but he puts the opinion of others above his own.

9. The Magician (Reversed) as the Intuition

The Magician (Reversed) as the Intuition suggest the receiver hasn’t a clue what the final outcome will be. He may have a guess, but he doesn’t have much faith in it.

10. The Magician (Reversed) as the Outcome

The Magician (Reversed) as the Outcome suggests the receiver will come out of this situation incomplete. Lots of confusion, followed by failed attempts at rebuilding himself will continue if steps aren’t taken to correct this.
