Sloppy joes or loosemeat sandwiches make for a quick dinner. This original recipe uses canned gravy and whenever you use anything canned, there are usually options such as fat-free. Lower sodium is also an option and because canned gravy is used in this recipe no salt is added to the recipe. You really do not need it.
2 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef browned and drained of any fat
2 T freshly minced onion
2 t minced garlic
2 t paprika
2 t chili powder
1/4 t black pepper
1 large can brown gravy (you can use brown gravy with mushrooms if you like)
In a large skillet or pot, add onion and garlic to the ground beef. Cook over a low flame for about 10 minutes.
Add all remaining spices and gravy. Do not add water to the gravy. It needs to be thick.
Stir together well.
Cook – approximately 20 minutes.
Serve on large soft rolls. Serving size is about 1 soup ladle full. Sandwich is sloppy!
This meat mixture can be frozen and used at a later time. What makes this quick and easy is to have pre-browned beef on hand. You can use ground turkey, chicken or a combination for this recipe. You may need to adjust the spices by adding more garlic.
