The Long Running Volkswagen Beetle

The original Volkswagen Beetle, which is an economy car, was produced from 1938 until 2003 and over 21 million were manufactured in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, making the Volkswagen Beetle the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world.

Then in 1998, Volkswagen introduced the Volkswagen New Beetle, which is a compact car that was inspired from the exterior design of the original Beetle. The Volkswagen New Beetle’s engine is in the front driving the front wheels, with luggage storage in the rear.

Volkswagen released many special editions, including the Malibu Barbie New Beetle. In May 2010, Volkswagen announced that production of the current body of the New Beetle will cease in 2011. So in 2012, Volkswagen replaced the Volkswagen New Beetle, with the new Volkswagen Beetle.

The new compact car is available to order at all UK dealers and the first deliveries are expected in spring 2012. Prices for the new Volkswagen Beetle start from £16,590. The new Volkswagen Beetle will have three new engines available, a 1.6-litre TDI BlueMotion Technology 105 PS, 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS and 2.0-litre TSI 200 PS alongside an optional six speed manual gearbox for the 1.2 litre TSI model. The new compact car is available to order at all UK dealers and the first deliveries are expected in spring 2012.
