Up to Date Info on the Australia Spousal Visa

We here at New World Immigration deal with all types of visas for Australia. One of the more popular visas is the Spousal Visa. With the Spousal visa comes a lot of questions and sometimes misconceptions. This article will break down the major points of the Australia Spousal Visa that you should know.  If you do marry an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and you decide to enjoy this great country with its sunny climate, strong economy, and many opportunities, read on so you know everything you should know.  All foreign nationals require a visa to join their spouse in Australia. The Spousal visa is the 309 Visa.

1)How do I qualify?

To qualify for the Spousal 309 Visa, you must be married to an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and you will need a marriage certificate.

2)What is the Processing Time:

For South African Nationals, the processing time on average will be between 3-6 months. For non South African Nationals, the processing time on average is longer taking 9-12 months.

3)How much does it cost?

Currently the Government fees for the 309 visa are R25,030 for the DIAC Application fee and R310 for the Service Lodgement Fee. These fees will likely change again this September so please contact us to get the latest fees.

4)Is it better to get married before and then enter Australia?

Yes, this will be worth the wait and you will only have to apply for one visa. You will obtain Permanent Residency upon entry into Australia and after two years, you must demonstrate that the marriage is still in good faith to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

5)Can I work in Australia on the Spousal Visa?

Yes, you will have automatic working rights upon entry into the country.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship will look at more than just the marriage certificate. They will consider the history of the relationship, the financial capacity of both the foreigner and Australian Sponsor, the medical condition of the applicant, and the criminal history (character) of the applicant. This can be a time consuming process and there will be a lot of support documentation required. Please contact us at NewWorld Immigration as we do hold a 100 % success rate with these applications. We love sending married couples to Australia!
