Massage therapy is a great career. Massage therapists can work in doctors offices, clinics, hospitals and spas. Getting a National Certification for Massage therapy gives a therapist more opportunities for employment. Massage is proven effective for relieving pain, boosting the immune system, reducing anxiety and easing post-operative pain. Massage is even covered under many health insurance plans.

Here is how to get a national certification.

1- Attend a massage training course that is approved by the NCETMB (National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork).

2- Pay a fee of $225.

3- Complete the application to take the exam. Include a copy of your photo ID, school transcript, sign a statement of understand and candidate compliance. You must also agree to a background check.

4- You will receive a confirmation letter along with instructions on how to schedule your exam.

5- The exam is computerized and contains 160 items. You score will be determined upon completion of the exam. You will be told whether you pass or fail.

6- You must get re-certified every 4 years.

The National Certification is an accredited credentialling organization that was formed to set high standards for their massage practioners. Having a National Certification helps to give credibility to the massage therapist.
