20 Celeb Supermoms Who Gave Birth In Their 40s

#20. Celine Dion

This talented Canadian singer was always open about her struggle to be a mom. The singer even confessed that she suffered a miscarriage. Although this was an unfortunate incident in her life, she never lost her hope to become a mother: she consulted with specialists and underwent six in vitro fertilization (IVF) rounds.

Celine’s struggle ended at age 42, when she gave birth to her twin sons, Eddy and Nelson.

There’s nothing that can top being a mother. I would like more but I don’t know if it could happen. I want the twins and me to have quality time,” Celine confessed.

#19. Salma Hayek

The actress and producer, Salma Hayek, gave birth to her daughter Valentina when she was 41 years old. Before becoming pregnant, she thought she might have problems to conceive. However, she was one of the lucky ones to become pregnant without undergoing any treatment. Amazing, right?

However, it’s also true that, while carrying her daughter, she suffered from gestational diabetes.

It’s such a powerful experience, and each day it gets more and more powerful. It’s exciting, especially since it’s a boy and girl,” she stated about the twins. “Also, since there is such a big age difference with my daughter (Mathilda, 5), it’s nice that they will have each other. I won’t have to scramble for playdates,” the actress added.

#15. Uma Thurman

This femme fatale delivered her third child, Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, aka Luna, when she turned 41. When asked if she wanted to have more kids, she commented:

The shop is closed. I got lucky, I have three healthy, beautiful children. Touch wood.”

My daughter [Maya Hawke] came up with the best excuse, which was that I probably wouldn’t get to have any more children, so I just put every name that I liked into [Luna’s]. We couldn’t quite agree on the name, so we call her Luna. She’s lucky that way,” the Kill Bill actress explained.

#14. Alyssa Milano

Actress, activist and producer Alyssa Milano gave birth to her daughter, Elizabella, in 2014, when Alyssa was 41. Alyssa and her husband, David Bugliari, also have a son named Milo, who was born in 2011.

I love it. I don’t think it’s as romantic as we project it to be through the media, but I think what the body goes through is miraculous. It’s such a cool thing to experience. I feel blessed that I’m getting another chance to do it, especially at 41.”

This gorgeous model had her first daughter, Zulekha, when she was in her early twenties. In 1992, Iman married rock star David Bowie, and they both were hoping to have a child together. It’s been a long and patient wait for our baby, but both Iman and I wanted the circumstances to be absolutely right, and didn’t want to find ourselves working flat out during the first couple of years of the baby’s life. This is a wonderful time in both our lives,” the singer-songwriter stated.

#12. Eva Mendes

Eva, whose breakthrough came after the 2001 thriller Training Day, has taken a break from acting since becoming a mom. She has two daughters with actor Ryan Gosling, the first one was born in 2014, when the actress was 40 years old, and the second one was born in 2016, when Eva turned 42.

The beautiful Latin actress made the following confession about being a mom:

I thought my wild nights were over, but these are some of the wildest nights I’ve ever had.” She also stated that “[I] read the comment section from other mothers because I find so much solace in that. Just knowing that I’m not alone out there and that other moms have gone through the same thing can at least get me through the night.”

#11. Tina Fey

For the then 40-years-old comedian, the decision to have a second child was not easy. Tina was anxious and afraid that she was too old to give birth healthily to more children at such an age. But this comedy queen and her husband, Jeff Richmond, had already decided not to postpone having kids for their careers.

In Tina’s book, Bossypants, the actress confessed that it was extremely difficult for her to be pregnant at her age to the point where she burst into tears in a routine visit to her gyno.

#10. Gwen Stefani

Together with her former spouse Gavin Rossdale, the then 44-year-old singer gave birth to Apollo, her third son, in 2015. What’s even more wonderful is that her son blessed her with “a whole new spiritual place.”

I had a fantasy that when you have kids, you do it in a family setting,” Beverly explained. “After we’d known each other for three months, [Al] looked me in the eyes and said, ‘I want you to be the mother of my children.’ That’s all I had to hear.”

This Golden Globe winner wasn’t seen with a baby bump, so it’s uncertain if she used a surrogate mom or if she carried her son in her womb. Either way, the Ozark female lead welcomed her son, Bennet, in 2014, when Laura was 49 years old.

I’m certainly not an advocate for having children later, but for me, it’s been wonderful and I’m deeply grateful. People would say to me, ‘Your life’s going to change.’ Good!” Laura confessed. “I want my life to change.”

#7. Helen Hunt

I tried for a long time, and it just didn’t happen,” the actress confessed. Helen and her then-boyfriend had started considering adoption when she got pregnant at age 40. The actress delivered a healthy baby girl, Makena Lei, in 2004.

#6. Jane Krakowski

Jane, best known for her role as Jenna Maroney in the NBC comedy series 30 Rock, gave birth in 2011, when she was just 42 years old. Fortunately, she was still doing 30 Rock and could talk to her friend, Tina Fey, about her late pregnancy.

#5. Janet Jackson

The talented singer and dancer Janet didn’t want to share any details of her pregnancy. Still, we learned that she carried her baby herself at age 50. She gave birth in April 2017 to a healthy son, Eissa Al Mana.

For someone like me, raised in show business where self-concern is always a priority, how fortunate I am now to be concerned, first and foremost, with the welfare of someone else. Day after day and night after night, holding my baby in my arms, I am at peace. I am blessed. I feel bliss. In those moments, all is right with the world,” the singer declared.

#4. Nicole Kidman

When Nicole was married to Tom Cruise, she suffered an ectopic pregnancy and the couple decided to adopt two children. The actress then married Keith Urban and became pregnant at age 42 with their daughter, Sunday Rose. Nicole and Keith decided to have their second daughter, Faith Margaret, via surrogacy.

I knew that I was going to have a child and that it didn’t matter [how], I actually didn’t know if I was ever going to give birth to a child,” the Australian actress stated. “We have many mothers, biological…adoptive but the way in which mothers can love and the power of that and that launches you off into the world.”

#3. Julianne Moore

This Academy Award winner had two children with director Bart Freundlich. Caleb, their son, was born when Julianne was 37 but their daughter Liv was born when the actress turned 41.

We have a very solid family life, and it is the most satisfying thing I have ever done,” she confessed.

#2. Jennifer Connelly

Former child model Jennifer Connelly met her husband, actor Paul Bettany, on the set of A Beautiful Mind in 2001. They welcomed their daughter, Agnes Lark when the actress was 40 years old and she admitted that she doesn’t want to have more kids.

Becoming a mother has made all the difference in terms of learning to take more responsibility for myself and my life,” the actress admitted. Then, she added “Parenthood changed the way I do everything. The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives. To me, that’s enough.”

#1. Geena Davis

Geena, who has recently played the role of Sandy Devereaux St. Clair in GLOW, gave birth first to her daughter Alizeh when she was 46 and then she gave birth to her twin sons, Kian and Kaiis, at age 48. Apparently, she waited to have kids until she felt it was the right time.

If I’d had kids earlier, I could easily have become one of those mothers who over involve themselves and try to live life through their kids. I’m sure there are younger people who have figured things out long before I did, but in my case, I became a parent with exactly the right person, at exactly the right time.”
