#20. Helping Their Parents
The teen from our story went out with her bigger brother to Target. They were not going to buy anything from the store. Instead, they headed towards the staff, asking if they could talk with the manager.
You see, they wanted to sell their candy in front of the store so they could help their parents. As they explained the situation, the manager agreed and let them begin their little business, as long as they did not disturb the customers.
#19. Some Extra Bucks
Thinking the extra bucks would help their parents, the Halloween candy the two had kept would go for sale. With that money, they would instead eat a hot meal. It was pretty simple and they thought that in a couple of days, they’d be able to sell the candy.
The young ones weren’t exactly running a business, but we’re sure they were quite the entrepreneurs. As they gathered the candy from the house, they were ready to sell them. They had no idea their day would go horribly wrong!
#18. A Week After Halloween
The siblings decided that it was best to wait for a week after Halloween when everyone was done eating their own candy. As they set up the boxes of candy at different entrances at the Target store, they waited for customers to approach them.
Unfortunately, the girl was going to have a tough day when a possible customer got closer. It was an older woman, and by the look of her face, it was clear she wasn’t going to buy anything…
#17. It’s Like Having a Lemonade Stand
Remember back in the days when kids learned how to take care of a business by setting up a lemonade stand in front of their house? It was fun and it felt more like a game than a way to gather money. But for these two kids, it meant a lot.
The kids thought that the money they’d get for selling the candy would be welcomed at home where things were tough. But what this girl didn’t know was that things would take a different turn.
#16. Learning a Lesson on Economy
As parents, we all want to teach our kids some lessons about economy and how they should spend their allowance. Sometimes, these lessons go a long way and kids understand the value of the money they earn.
That’s why the siblings in this story are way more experienced when it comes to knowing the value of money since they have very little. They knew their parents struggled, so they wanted to help…
#15. Selling Their Sweets
Target or other shops allow kids to sell things for charities, so the siblings were allowed to sell their candies in front of Target, as long as they were in the original package and weren’t expired.
The two kids looked honest enough to be trustworthy, so the manager didn’t see why he should refuse them. But the younger sister would soon realize not all people were as kind as the manger!
#14. Old Lady Approaches the Sister
Since thousands of people went to Target every day, the little sister set up shop in front of the store’s entrance. She chose a shaded spot so that the candy was safe and waited for people to come and ask about her box.
That’s when an old lady approached her, but instead of asking how much was a candy bar, she began asking question. Her voice began growing stronger and stronger and the teen found herself cornered…
#13. Everything Was Okay
Looking at the box, the teen girl saw that everything was looking okay - the candy was in its package, which was intact and clean. They were kept in the shade so they won’t melt. Why was this lady yelling at her?
Everything looked okay, but the old woman wanted some explanations. It was quite unexpected, considering grannies are sweet. This old lady wasn’t just sour, she was also cranky! What did she want from the girl?
#12. Yelling At The Teen
The old lady frowned at the girl, looking at her box. Then after a few seconds, she starts asking the girl what she was doing with those sweets. As the girl starts explaining, the granny begins yelling at her!
What was this old woman thinking when she began yelling at a kid? She didn’t stop there, though. She told the teen to pack up her box and leave that place or else she would call the police to take her to jail…
#11. The Young Girl Began Crying
Hearing the old lady saying she would call the police if she doesn’t leave the store, the teen girl began crying. She pleaded, explaining she just wanted to make a few bucks and she was allowed to stay there, but the woman wouldn’t have it!
The old lady asked for papers to see whether the kid was really allowed to sell sweets there and the girl got scared. She had no papers from the Target manager, only his word. Now what? Her brother wasn’t around to protect her…
#10. She Was Ready to Leave
As the girl got scared and she wasn’t going to wait for the police to come and send her to jail! So she got down on her knees to grab her box and head over to her brother. But that’s when one man got closer…
The old lady didn’t stop from making a scene, and people that got out of the store saw it. Things looked like they were escalating, but you’ll see it wasn’t going to do the old lady a favor!
#9. A Young Woman Saw What Was Happening
Stunned to see the old lady yelling at the kid, a young woman took out her phone and began taking a few photos and recording the whole scene. She had no idea that her Facebook post would become viral!
Andy Lizarraga was getting out of Target when she saw the old woman yelling at the kid. In the video description, she wrote: “Outside of Target, someone was selling candy. As my mom and I were walking away, a lady went up to this person and told them she wanted to see their license to sell.”
#8. Harassing the Kid
As the old lady was harassing the kid, Andy said she saw her cry. Even though people passed by and told the old lady to leave the kid alone, she didn’t stop. Then, a man becomes this kid’s hero.
Andy couldn’t believe her video gathered over 6 million views on Facebook! And that’s because that man would soon teach the old lady a lesson she won’t ever forget!
#7. He Wasn’t Going to Stand By
The man saw what has happening and decided not to stand by. So he intervened between the old lady and the kid. In an interview with CBS a few days later, he explained what he saw that day…
"She was in tears. When I walked up, she was crying hysterically. She continued to yell at her and scream at her and tell her if she didn’t have a permit, that she was going to go to jail, that Sheriffs were on their way."
#6. She Had no Right to Yell at the Kid
The old lady had absolutely no right to yell at the kid and she had to taught a lesson. Lopez was going to stand by the kid’s side and decided to do this thing…
“I’m buying it all,” he said looking at the kid and then at the old woman, adding “I’m gonna buy it all, and I’m gonna give it away to all these people. You should be ashamed of yourself,” he said turning towards the old woman.
#5. Lopez Bought All the Candy
Lopez went inside Target to pull $80 and returned to pay the girl what he promised. The whole box contained $70 worth of candy and Lopez paid the girl $80 for it. That’s not how the story ends though…
The story reached the local news and reporters looked for Andy and Lopez to talk about their day at Target. Here’s what they said about those moments.
#4. People Started Sharing the Video
"I showed it to friends and family, not intending it to go viral at all and I guess people just started sharing it and sharing it," said Andy who was told to make the video public so more could see what Lopez did.
Meanwhile, Lopez said about the old lady that she should have minded her own business: “Take care of yourself and your family and everything will come together for you.” A lot of people passed by the girl and bought some sweets to encourage her and that old lady just took it too far!
#3. Good People in This World
“There are good people and bad people in this world and I saw it first hand,” saw Andy, thankful that Lopez showed everyone goodness is still out there, and we can all show it to others.
The girl was trying to make some honest money with candy she had owned. She didn’t steal anything or bothered others and still, an old lady stopped so low, reveling in the kid’s misery…
#2. She Certainly Learned Her Lesson
As you can imagine, the old woman did learn her lesson - maybe she didn’t learn she had to be kind to others, but at least she learned to mind her own business.
Meanwhile, the kid realized the world is a strange place, but there are still some good people out there, ready to stand by her side. She stopped crying seeing that Lopez came to help her.
#1. A Great Day
The girl suddenly was having a great day considering she sold a box filled with candy in one single day. It would have been better without the drama, but the sight of the old lady’s livid face as the people around her ate candy was priceless!
Who knew the villain of our story was an old lady, whose actions backfired! And to think everything could have been avoided if she just kept her mouth shut and carried on with her day…
