#20. The Dahm Sisters Are Celebrities
Right now, everyone knows who the Dahm sisters are! They hold the title for "The Most Beautiful Triplets" in the world, but what else did you know about them? Let’s see how they rose to fame and how they got to learn more about their roots.
Born within an hour on December 12, 1977, the three beautiful sisters were a blessing to their family who hails from Jordan, Minnesota. It's safe to say they stunned the doctors and the whole town right on their first day on this world!
#19. Beautiful Kids
The three babies even shocked the doctors who saw three blonde haired baby girls, impossible to tell them apart. Erica, Nicole and Jaclyn grew up to become beautiful blue-eyed toddlers and even their parents had problems telling them apart!
This is why they decided to tattoo the babies bottoms with a dot to tell them apart. Being the first born, Nicole had a small dot, Erica had two and Jaclyn had three dots. The Dahm’s childhood was normal - aside from confusing everyone who tried to tell them apart… Then they slowly became celebrities!
#18. Growing Up
As they grew up, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn were known around town. They were always together, doing the same things and wearing the same clothes. Nicole recalls that they didn’t have a unique identity: “We rarely hold our own identity. We were always known as ‘You three’ or ‘The Triplets.’”
When they reached 16 years old, the identical triplets stunned a modelling agent who got them on the cover of the popular Teen Magazine in 1994! Then, their career in modelling took off, and it wasn’t surprising for the family and their friends - the Dahm sisters were charming!
#17. Popular Sisters
Living in a town that only had around 30,000 people, the Dahm triplets were popular enough. Add the fact that they were now models and the won the “Great Model Search,” the blonde and blue-eyed girls would find a lot more success.
A career in modeling was promising, but the girls wanted more than that so they chose to go for a meaningful career. This is why the three went to the University of Minnesota and began their studies to become nurses. Little did they know life had some other plans for the triplets!
#16. Modeling Search at the Campus
At the campus, as they sisters were strolling, they noticed a flyer from Playboy’s “Girls of the Big Ten” - special edition. Thinking it would be quite an adventure and fun, the girls decided to call the number on the flyer.
The modeling agent saw triple - he knew he had struck gold with these three beautiful and identical sisters. They would have been perfect for the special edition, but were the girls ready to appear nude in the famous Playboy magazine?
#15. They Were Hesitant
It’s safe to say that the three nursing students that weren’t planning to be full time models were not really up for becoming nude models! But together, they had a lot more courage, said Jaclyn: “we would never have done this (modeled for Playboy) as individuals.”
So their shot went very well and people loved seeing the three in Playboy’s centerfold that they decided to continue their modeling career. That’s why they had to drop out of the university and say goddbye to the small childhood town they had been living in…
#14. Moving to Los Angeles
Erica said that “Playboy was what started me and my sisters’ lives...It’s something I wouldn’t change for the world, and [it was] an amazing experience”. As they began new lives in LA, the sisters even starred in an episode of Boy Meets World in 1999.
Then, they made the cover of Playboy Australia in the same year. Together with their older sister and parents, the triplets even showed up on Family Feud and won the competition, getting over $10,000! But that was only the beginning of an amazing life!
#13. House Wars and Other Shows
Together with their father, the triplets appeared on House Wars where they had to redesign and renovate a house, and they won that show as well! As you can imagine, the girls were not just beautiful, but also very smart. This takes us to the DNA test, which has shocked an entire world…
After House Wars, the girls appeared on Renovate My Family since they were already popular on TV. That’s when Erica fell in love with the host of the show, Jay McGraw, who was the son of the popular Dr. Phil. She said it was “love at first sight,” and their first date was unforgettable!
#12. Falling In Love
Jay liked Erica so much that he knocked on her trailer that day and asked her out for a movie. In 2006, the two got married in Beverly Hills, and everyone cried as they said “I do.” Nicole and Jaclyn were her maids of honor.
But what Erica and her sisters didn’t know was that the day they met Jay would lead them tofind out more about their origins. Here’s how they got the DNA test…
#11. The Doctors Talk Show
Jay and his father were also the producers of another show called The Doctors. The medical talk show was very popular, and since the Dahm sisters were also famous, they decided to bring them on the show as regulars and talk about their lives and their health as triplets.
That’s when during an episode, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn took home a DNA test to see how accurate the at-home-kit was. It was when they would find out the results that the viewers and the sisters were shocked!
#10. Shocking the Whole World!
The producers had no idea that the episode would make history! The Dahm triplets were left speechless as they watched the screen and saw their different origins unfold. But before taking the test, the triplets had some incredible news…
You see, by the end of 2009, the triplets got married and it was time for the families to expand. Nicole got married to Michael Kelly and Jaclyn got married to Billy Dolan. The great news was that the three of them got pregnant!
#9. Pregnant Together
Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn decided to get pregnant around the same time so that their babies could grow up together. They said it was only “natural to want to have kids together,” and really hoped they would have triplets or twins!
The chances of that happening were very rare, but they didn’t lose hope. In January, February, and March of 2010, the Dahm triplets gave birth to baby girls! Each girl’s middle name was Elizabeth! Now that the moms were caring for the babies, they took a short break until 2011…
#8. The DNA Test
Back for the planned DNA test, the triplets were eager to learn more about their DNA and origins so they received from the host of the show an at-home kit. The episode showed the sisters at home, in their kitchen, each opening a kit of her own.
The tests require a sample of saliva. Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn provided the samples in front of the cameras and waited for the tests. It was obvious they would find out the DNA was identical, but they had no idea that their origins were not at all similar!
#7. Waiting For the Results
The triplets had to wait for the results and had no idea they would be stunned by what it was shown on the screen! You see, the Dahm triplets were fascinated by the triplet bond and to see that they were not that identical, it was confusing…
The girls already knew that they were so identical that Erica could use her fingerprint to unlock everything Nicole had. The 23andMe test kit was shocking both to them and to the audience!
#6. A Different Ethnicity Background
As identical the triplets were, their ethnicity background was very different! It turned out they had a different ancestry. While their basic origin was 99% European, as the percentage was broken down into more details, it showed a different result.
For instance, Erica and Nicole had Irish and British roots, but Erica was 16% Irish and British, while Nicole was 18% Irish and British! It seemed odd, but even more gaps would show in the results…
#5. German and French Roots
The girls had also some German and French roots, again very different from each other. The results revealed Nicole had 11%, Jaclyn had 18% and Erica 22.3% German and French heritage! How was that possible?
"I'm surprised. I’m surprised because we came from the same egg and DNA. How are our ancestries different?" asked Nicole. Then there was the Scandinavian percentage…
#4. Even More Differences
While Nicole was 11.4% Scandinavian, her sisters were only 7.4% Scandinavian. Everyone was confused until the host of show Dr. Travis Stork stepped in with some theories. He said that “you can’t just spit in a cup and have every single answer that you are looking for.”
It might be that at-home DNA test kits are not as accurate as the ones used by doctors in their office. While taking such a test at home is exciting, it cannot possibly provide a 100% accurate result. Nonetheless, the test has been exciting for the triplets and the audience that was left wondering what their own origins were.
#3. A Shocking Discovery
Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn admitted they were shocked to see the results of the DNA tests and are happy they got to raise awareness about DNA testing and searching for your ancestry. But what have they been doing since 2011?
In 2011, Nicole gave birth to a baby boy. In 2012 Erica also gave birth to a baby boy and so did Jaclyn in 2013! Now the triplets are the mothers of one son and one daughter! Together with their husbands and their children, the Dahm sisters described themselves as being one big family!
#2. Lucky Triplets
Having triplets is quite a challenging and a blessing to the girls’ parents. They’re now 43 years old and enjoy being mothers! We see them on social media sharing photos of their holidays with the family.
Looking back at their success, Erica said “it’s something you never experience when you’re from a small town of 2,000 people, and all of a sudden you’re in a magazine all around the world”.
#1. Together Forever
To show how strong the bond they still share, even after more than four decades, the sisters still remain together and are closer than ever. They’ve been sharing the same personalities and traits, the same wishes and tastes since they were toddlers.
The Dahm triplets are still pretty popular and now share a YouTube channel where they show off their cooking skills. You can check them out at TripletsGourmet!
