#30. United By Fate
From the moment Heidi and Ed met, they felt like they'd known each other forever, and the only explanation was that fate had brought them together. They were meant to be, and everyone seemed to agree. They were two peas in a pod and loved nothing more than being together.
Heidi's mother, however, had a strange feeling about Ed, but she could not pinpoint what it was that gave her this feeling. Later, she would realize what it was. It wasn't necessarily a bad feeling, but she felt that there was a secret about him that her daughter didn't know about.
#29. How They Met
Heidi and Ed met when they were both students at the University of Newcastle in 2011. Back then, Ed was studying business and psychology and was living at a shared apartment. The place was okay, but everything there was old.
Most student apartments are in poor conditions but are super cheap to rent. While his apartment was mostly okay there were some things that weren't working properly. The biggest problem he had was working the washing machine, so he needed to figure out how to make it work. Then, he came up with an idea.
#28. The Message
Since he had no idea how to use the washing machine, he thought he would ask the previous tenant of the apartment for help. After all, who would know that better than the person that lived there before? Although it's kind of weird to just contact an old tenant, he thought it would be a good idea.
He had some old mail with the name of that person, so he had the brilliant idea of searching for them on Facebook and sending them a message. Now, who exactly was this mysterious person? It was someone that would change Ed's life forever, and he had no idea.
#27. The First Encounter
Ed searched the name of the old tenant, Heidi Parker, on Facebook, and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a picture of her. He was expecting some old lady or just a regular person, but it wasn't like that at all. in fact, it was the complete opposite.
He found the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his life. The two got to talking via chat and the washing machine was quickly forgotten. They learned that they both attended the same university and still lived rather close to each other.
#26. Some Concerns
Heidi was a little surprised that some guy just messaged her on Facebook out of nowhere. But after he gave her the details of her own apartment, she believed that he was telling the truth when he asked her about her old washing machine. The two seemed to have an instant connection.
Ed seemed nice and all, but the fact that a stranger was texting her and asking her about some old washing machine. She didn't know whether that was all made up, or if the weird story was real. Still, she really enjoyed talking to him, so she thought it wouldn't be so bad to just go and help him with his problem.
#25. So Much In Common
Judging by their brief conversation on Facebook, the two had a lot in common. Not only did they study at the same university, but they studied similar things. Heidi studied economics while Ed studied business. And, Ed lived in the same apartment Heidi had lived in before.
Heidi was single and thought Ed was really handsome, so it was basically meant to be. When Ed asked her out on a date, Heidi was inclined to say yes, but was not absolutely sure yet. After all, he was just a stranger on the internet, even if they seemed to have a connection.
#24. Chatting First
Heidi thought it would be better to get to know each other over Facebook first before getting together in real life. Ed was okay with that, because he enjoyed talking to her so much. They totally hit it off and in the course of a few days they became very close, almost as if they had known each other for years.
From that very first chat they had, they started talking every single day all throughout the day. They would share stories about their lives or just simply tell each other about what they were doing at that moment. They somehow couldn't spend much time without texting each other.
#23. Time To Meet
After a couple weeks of chatting through Facebook, Heidi agreed to go on a date with Ed. Even though she said yes, she was concerned that they wouldn't have the same chemistry in person, which is something that happens a lot in this modern world. Maybe they wouldn't be so comfortable around each other in real life.
Despite her fears, she went to meet him anyway. When they met, sparks flew instantly. They quickly fell in love with each other basically since the first date. According to Heidi, Ed was the cutest guy she had ever seen, and Ed felt the exact same way about her.
#22. Inseparable
From that very first date, Ed and Heidi were inseparable. The two did everything together and missed each other deeply every time they were apart. Not only were they boyfriend and girlfriend, but they were best friends. They still had other friends, of couse, but they enjoyed nothing more than each other's company.
Because spending time apart was so difficult for them, it only made sense for them to move in together. For most people, that would have been a little premature, but they knew in their hearts that this was the right thing.
#21. Moving Out
When they decided to move in together, they didn't just get an apartment somewhere in the city. One of the things they had in common was that they both wanted to travel and see the world, and one of their dream destinations was Europe. It was clear to them that they had to move out of the country.
They actually took a huge step and moved to London. With the money they had both saved over the years, they bought their own apartment in Wandsworth, a suburb, and began planning their future together. Their family thought it was not the best idea to make such big decisions so fast, but they were supportive.
#20. The Next Step
If two people move across the world and buy a house together, it only makes sense for them to want to spend the rest of their lives together. They were inseparable at this point, and the only logical step for them to take was marriage. Heidi knew that Ed would eventually propose, and she couldn't wait.
The topic of marriage came up in many of their conversations, and it wasn't long before Ed popped the question. Heidi did not hesitate for a second when she said "yes", and now it was time to plan their dream wedding.
#19. Taking It Slow
Even though their relationship had moved very fast up to that point, Ed and Heidi decided to take their time planning their wedding. They wanted to work for a while and save money so that they could have the wedding of their dreams and also have all of their relatives present for the big event. Because they were now living in London, it wasn't easy to get everyone there.
This seemed a little surprising considering that they had gotten into such a serious relationship very fast, but their wedding was different. A wedding is supposed to be the most special day of your life, and they wanted to share that with their loved ones and make it an unforgettable event.
#18. Waiting For That Moment
In fact, because they had moved so far away, they hadn't even met each other's parents yet. Their parents knew that their children were engaged, but they had no idea who they were engaged to! There was no way that they were going to get married and start a family without meeting each other's relatives first.
Heidi's mother told her that she wanted to meet Ed before the wedding, and they all thought that would be a good idea. Between all the planning and saving money, Ed and Heidi were engaged for three years before they got closer to tying the knot.
#17. Meeting The Parents
After much planning, Heidi finally got to fly her parents out to London to meet Ed. They were all really nervous and excited, and she couldn't wait to see her family after such a long time. Being thousands of miles apart from your family is not easy, especially if you are very close.
The moment finally came and Ed met Heidi's mom in person for the very first time. Heidi's mother had only seen Ed in pictures, and there was something about her that made her feel strange. Then, she made a very peculiar comment at dinner.
#16. A Strange Comment
Ed met Heidi's mom at a restaurant in London where they all got together for dinner. While it was a bit awkward at first, they all hit it off pretty quickly. And of course, how could it not be awkward? Meeting your fiancé's mother can be extremely intimidating! Luckily, her mom was very friendly.
The couple began talking about their relationship and their lives in London. As they were telling Heidi's mom about how they met, she made a very strange comment. She said that it was all very funny because he wasn't the first guy named "Ed" that Heidi had dated.
#15. Ed Who?
Heidi looked at her mother with confusion in her eyes. She had never dated another guy named "Ed", so where was her mother getting that from? But her mother insisted that it was true. In fact, she remembered the story of how they met and everything, and it all started when Heidi was only six years old.
Heidi was puzzled because she obviously remembered every guy she had ever dated, and none of them was named Ed. Was her mother losing her mind? Was she confusing her with someone else? Still, her mother was 100% sure about it and proceeded to tell them her version of events.
#14. A Love Story
Heidi's mother remembered it all clearly like it was yesterday. This was a very important part of Heidi's life because, according to her mother, this was Heidi's first love. And how could Heidi not remember who her first love was? Maybe because she was so young at the time?
he whole family had gone on vacation to Turkey when Heidi was six years old. They met another family at the resort they were staying who had a son who was also six years old. His name was Ed, and he and Heidi hit it off right away. They began a very strong friendship during their short holiday.
#13. A Funny Coincidence
Heidi had no recollection of this story, but she listened to her mother attentively. Her mother told the story of how Heidi and this boy named Ed spent literally all day together during their holiday, even though they didn't really know each other. The two were basically best friends in a matter of days.
She went on to say that Heidi and the boy spent most of their time together during the one-week holiday and that her and the boy's parents also got along. She also said that Heidi had a huge crush on that boy, and he clearly had one on her.
#12. A Thing For Eds
The anecdote left Heidi feeling kind of confused, because she didn't remember it at all. However, it was a cute story and it definitely made things less awkward at the dinner table. Also, it was a funny coincidence that her childhood crush had the same name as her fiancé.
The dinner was a success and the fact that Heidi had had a crush on another boy named Ed was the highlight of the evening. After saying goodbye, everyone went home. But Heidi's mom had a gut feeling, and as soon as she got back to America, she went to the attic, where they kept all the old family pictures, to see if her suspicions were true.

Heidi's mom searched for hours until she found the pictures from their Turkey holiday. She then went through every single one of them, hoping to find this mysterious little boy and prove to Heidi that she was not crazy. After all, she remembered it like it was yesterday.
She wanted to see if this "Ed" kid was in any of the pictures, and he actually was. There were, in fact, several pictures of Heidi and this Boy, and he looked strangely familiar. Could it be that Ed and this boy had more in common than just a name?
#10. An Unbelievable Thing
Now that she had the pictures, Heidi's mom couldn't wait to show them to her daughter. She emailed the picture she found of her and the boy to Heidi and wrote: "I found your ex-boyfriend!". She thought this would make Heidi laugh and remember a cute anecdote from her childhood.
But when Heidi received the email and took a look at it, she didn't find it funny. In fact, she had to lie down and take a breath, because she didn't believe what she was seeing. The boy looked like a young version of her fiancé. But could it really be him? She had to get to the bottom of it.
#9. Confronting Ed
While the little boy in the pictures kind of looked like Ed, Heidi couldn't tell for sure. When she thought about it, she realized that the only person who could actually confirm this was Ed himself, but during dinner, he hadn't mentioned that it could have been him in any way.
Ed had been at that dinner when Heidi's mom told the story about the boy. If he had been that boy, he surely would remember it, right? Maybe it was all a super crazy coincidence. But then again, Heidi didn't remember it either. Yet, there were pictures proving that the story was real. Her only choice was to confront Ed with the pictures and see what he had to say.
#8. The Truth
As soon as Ed came home from work, Heidi showed him the picture, and he was even more shocked than she had been. He knew that he was that boy, but he couldn't believe it. Although Heidi had been waiting all day to hear what Ed had to say, he was speechless.
Finally, after gathering his thoughts, he said that he believed that was him. There was no doubt in his mind that that boy was him and if it wasn't, it was some kind of long-lost twin. But if that were them, how come they didn't remember it? Maybe it was just a lookalike?
#7. More Witnesses
After they both calmed down, they started to try to remember what happened during their childhoods. No matter how hard they tried, however, they could not remember this event ever taking place. How could neither of them remember that? Maybe it was all just a crazy coincidence.
Because neither of them remembered this supposed holiday to Turkey, Ed decided to call his parents and ask them about it. To his shock, they remembered it like it was yesterday. Not only that, but they clearly remembered that Ed had made a friend during that time: a six-year-old girl. Then, they started looking for the pictures from that holiday.
#6. It Was All Clear
The last piece of the puzzle would be to see whether there were any pictures of Ed in this supposed holiday. While they were already pretty sure it was him in the pictures, if his parents had any proof of it, then they would be 100% sure. So, his parents got to work.
Ed's parents searched for their old family pictures and sure enough, they found them. They also had pictures of Ed and Heidi wearing the same clothes they were wearing in Heidi's mom's pictures, so there was no doubt that it was really him. The couple were still in shock, mostly because they didn't remember meeting each other all those years ago, but then, it all made sense.
#5. A Strong Connection
Even though neither of them remembered what happened when they were children, the strong connection that they had since the beginning made more sense than ever. They had always been united by this bond that they couldn't explain, and that is why they felt like they had known each other since forever when they met, because they actually did!
They still can't believe that they both forgot about such a significant moment in their lives, but they probably forgot because, after all, they were just little kids. Deep inside, however, they always knew they were meant to be, and now they couldn't wait to get married.
