Check Out The Most Pause-Worthy Moments In Movie History

Titanic

Without a doubt, Titanic is the greatest epic romance ever filmed. Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet have left fans swooning ever since the movie first hit the theaters back in 1997. Apart from its heart-wrenching storyline, the movie also has its fair share of steamy scenes.

Once socialite Rose and sketch artist Jack fall for each other, she asks him to make a nude portrait of her. Let's be honest. We’ve all paused the scene where Winslet lies naked on the couch, waiting for Di Caprio to finish his sketch.

Dirty Dancing

This Dirty Dancing scene has been recreated millions of times, both by other directors in other films as well as by ordinary people in real life. It takes place in the movie's climax, when the Oscar-winning tune The Time of My Life sounds through the speakers.

To the beat of the song, Jennifer Grey soars right up into Patrick Swayze's arms. Am I the only one who wished Swayze grabbed me in his arms too? I doubt it! Now, are you ready for our top 5?

Peter Pan

How old were you when you first realized that your favorite childhood Disney movies were filled with overtly controversial messages? If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a perfect example.

There's a scene in Peter Pan where the main character starts stretching facing the wall. If you look twice, you'll notice there's something funny about his shadow, something you wouldn't expect in a kids' movie.

American Beauty

It's hard to choose only one iconic scene from American Beauty. While the most obvious pick would've been Mena Suvari lying on a bed of roses, I decided to go with one of the opening scenes instead. Does it ring a bell?

The film starts with Kevin Spacey sitting on a high school basketball court watching a group of female cheerleaders do their dance. Suddenly, as he becomes infatuated with her daughter's blonde friend, her spotlight shines, and everything else turns black.

Total Recall

The 1990 action film Total Recall is more famous for its state-of-the-art special effects rather than the quality of its script. However, despite how lousy its storyline was, the movie was a box office hit.

The movie is filled with all sorts of wacky scenes, but screenwriters really took things to another level when they decided to feature a woman with three breasts. We can't blame the fans who clicked pause to ask themselves, "Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?

Basic Instinct

Basic Instinct may not be the best-scripted thriller film out there, but it went down in history thanks to Sharon Stone's brilliant portrayal of femme fatale Catherine Tramell. In fact, it was this movie role that turned the celebrated actress into a worldwide sex symbol.

Even if you haven't watched the film, you're probably familiar with the scene in which Stone keeps crossing and uncrossing her legs in an effort to seduce a group of police officers during an interrogation. She really lives little to the imagination, doesn't she?

The Wolf Of Wall Street

Scorcese's The Wolf of Wall Street was one of this century's greatest box office hits, and for a good reason. The film follows the life of stockbroker Jordan Belfort as he cons his way into a life of wealth, drugs, and women.

Undoubtedly, the blonde bombshell Margot Robbie steals most of the spotlight. She surely left fans swooning in the scene where she tries to seduce Leonardo Di Caprio by spreading her legs wide open.

Spider-Man

The first live-action Spider-Man film hit the theaters in 2002, and almost two decades after its release, everyone still talks about Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst's famous kiss.

While Spider-Man dangles from a building, the two lovebirds share an upside-down-kiss beneath the thudding rain, making this scene a defining moment in pop culture.

The Lion King

Released in 1994, The Lion King is one of the greatest classics in Disney history. Just like in Peter Pan, however, one of its scenes contains a pretty inappropriate message for kids.

Remember when Simba, Timon, and Pumba are lying on a rock while gazing at the stars, and Simba tries to convince his friends that his father's spirit rests in the sky? Well, many fans have claimed that the stars spell out the word "sex.”

The Graduate

The Graduate definitely left its mark in Hollywood history, not only because of its hit song Mrs. Robinson but also because it broke a taboo in the movie industry: romances with huge age gaps.

As you all know, the film follows the life of a college student who falls for Mrs. Robinson, a woman twice his age, but then falls in love with her daughter. The most pause-worthy moment is when Mrs. Robinson strips herself naked and stretches her legs to seduce Dustin Hoffman's character.

The Seven Year Itch

The craziest thing about this iconic image is that many people don't know it actually belongs to a film. Right at the peak of her career, sex symbol Marilyn Monroe starred in the rom-com The Seven Year Itch, in what eventually became her most famous movie character ever.

This scene shows Monroe walking down a subway grate, and as a soft gust of air blows her stunning white dress, she giggles and effortlessly covers herself up. Little did the movie creators imagine this scene would leave its mark in popular culture the way it did.

Psycho

Alfred Hitchock is pretty much the king of thriller and suspense, but while he's directed literally dozens of classics, Psycho is his most iconic artwork. I won't bore you by summarizing its plot. We all know how it goes.

I could name at least ten scenes from Psycho that everyone knows by heart, but the most iconic and heart-stomping moment is when Janet Leigh is approached by Norman while taking a shower at Bates Motel. Realizing she was about to be murdered, she starts screaming in desperation, making the audience jump out of their seats.

Star Wars: A New Hope

Let's start our list with one of the most acclaimed cult films ever made: the first movie of George Lucas' Star Wars saga. Not only did it become famous worldwide because of its groundbreaking special effects, but also because of the silliest blooper you can think of.

During Luke Skywalker and Hans Solo's quest to save Princess Leia, the space station is suddenly boarded by hoards of villainous Stormtroopers. While searching for their enemies, one of the Stormtroopers bumps his head against a door frame. While it was actually an accident, Lucas decided to leave the scene unedited and even added a sound effect to the bang.

Iron Man

It's a pretty known fact that all Marvel films include countless Easter Eggs, which are often references to other films from the Marvel Universe. Obviously, Iron Man is no exception.

Remember the scene where Robert Downey Jr. puts on his Iron Man suit? Well, if you look closely, you'll realize that Captain America's unfinished shield is lying right behind him. Crazy, right?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

It goes without saying that Jessica Rabbit is the most sexualized animated character ever to hit the big screen. In fact, even though it's just a theory, most fans believe she goes commando during most of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

It comes as no surprise that Jessica Rabbit steals the spotlight in the movie's most-paused scene. As the read-headed dancer makes some moves and shows off her curves, the men in the audience stare in awe with their mouths wide open.

Signs

While Signs was destroyed by critics, most fans consider it to be an electrifying thriller, myself included. The movie is about an alien invasion, but it isn't until the very last scenes that we first get to see one of the aliens.

The first time that slim, human-like green alien appeared, my heart literally stopped beating for a few seconds. Since you almost don't get any other glimpse at the aliens after that, it's impossible not to click pause!

Three Men And A Baby

The plot of the 1987 comedy film Three Men and a Baby is strange enough: it basically revolves around the lives of three immature bachelors who find a baby at their doorstep and impulsively decide to raise it together. However, what's even stranger is how little attention the crew paid to details.

There's this scene where Ted Danson and the woman who plays his mother are gaping at the baby while this random boy stares at them from behind the drapes. The director later explained that it was a cardboard cutout of Danson that someone had forgotten on set. Come one, people, you had one job!

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, and while many consider it to be a heart-stopping thriller, others regard it as a hilarious comedy. No matter which side you're on, there's this one scene that has left everybody crying in tears.

When the killer pterodactyls cause panic and chaos in the park, everyone starts screaming and desperately running for their lives. Well, almost everyone: all except Jimmy Buffett, who seems to be more worried about not spilling his two margaritas. I feel you, Jimmy.

Teen Wolf

While this film isn't as famous as the ones we've just read about, it definitely deserved a spot on our list thanks to its embarrassing production blunder. Even though this coming-of-age rom-com was mainly aimed at a teenage audience, it included a pretty inappropriate scene…

The movie's most-watched scene actually takes place right before the credits roll. As the crowd is cheering for Michael Fox’s winning score in a basketball match, a man with his pants and underwear down inadvertently appears in the background.

Pulp Fiction

Obviously, one of Tarantino's films had to make it to our top 10. While many critics consider Pulp Fiction to be one of the most brilliant cult films ever made, the film has a few continuity errors and plot holes here and there. Did you know that one of its most iconic scenes includes a major blooper?

We all love the moment when John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson start dodging the bullets being shot at them from a roommate hidden in the bathroom. However, if you take a closer look, you'll realize that the bathroom wall is filled with bullet holes before the shootout takes place. Come on, Quentin, you know better!

Aladdin

Years before VHS and DVDs came to the market, most of Disney's Easter eggs went unnoticed and mostly remained inside jokes between animators. It wasn't until the Internet and streaming platforms came along that all of these jokes started coming to the surface.

For instance, did you know that Sebastian, the Jamaican crab from The Little Mermaid, appeared for a few seconds alongside the Genie in Aladdin? How did I never notice this before?

Grease

Who hasn't grown up listening to the Grease soundtrack? From Tell Me More to Hopelessly Devoted to You, this 70s musical is as popular today as it was in the olden days.

Throughout most of the film, Olivia Newton-John is portrayed as an innocent, naive young woman, so the moment she appears wearing those tight, black-leather pants is a real game-changer. I bet John Travolta wasn't the only one who had chills that were multiplying!

The Wizard Of Oz

Over eight decades have passed ever since The Wizard of Oz first hit the theaters, but this all-time classic is as popular as it was back in the 30s. A magical world, creative characters, catchy tunes… what's not to like?

The movie's most iconic scene is probably when young Dorothy skips playfully down the Yellow Brick Road together with her new friends, Tin Man and Scarecrow. However, there's actually a dark side to this moment, as a strange, dark figure can be spotted dangling from a tree a few feet away. Rumor has it that a cast member committed suicide on set. Yikes!
