#25. Vincent Van Gogh And Paul Gauguin
France, 1888. Gauguin had joined Van Gogh at his studio in Arles for what they hoped would be a creative community to both live and work in. As you can imagine, all hell broke loose and after two intense months, their creative differences began to show. These two ended up mending their relationship, but only after their fight reached its peak.
It seems that during one of their many fights, Van Gogh threatened Gauging with a knife. Allegedly, this is what happened before Van Gogh cut his own ear. Some art historians have even suggested that it was Gauging who cut Van Gogh's ear. Like we said before, the artists settled their dispute and continued to exchange letters and sketches until Van Gogh's suicide.
#24. Coco Chanel And Elsa Schiaparelli
They were the top two female fashion designers in the 1930s, but just because they were colleagues it didn't mean they had to be best friends. In fact, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli wereavowed rivals. Such was the rivalry, that there was a time when some people believed that Chanel "steered" Schiaparelli into some candles, causing her to catch fire.
It was pretty clear that the two designers had no interest in burying the hatchet and their tense relationship never became a friendly one. There was, however, a somewhat peaceful period in 1954 after Elsa Schiaparelli was forced to close her design house due to bankruptcy.
#23. Joan Crawford And Bette Davis
This is still Hollywood's most legendary feud. It all started in 1935, when Joan Crawford marriedFranchot Tone, who was Bette Davis' leading man inDangerous. Apparently, Davis had a crush on Tone. That marriage was enough to unleash a war between the stars, a war which none of them had any intention to hide.
The actresses never resolved their feud. In fact, their fight reached its peak when both ladies stared in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? and only Davis was nominated for anAcademy Award for Best Actress. Crawford wasted no time and came up with an ingenious way to still be a part of the ceremony and upstage Davis: the actress ended up accepting Anne Bancroft's award and eclipsing Bette Davis on what was supposed to be one of the greatest nights of her life.
#22. Olivia De Havilland And Joan Fontaine
So far, we have discussed plain, simple rivalry. Now, we'll go one step further and talk about sibling rivalry. As you can imagine, what could have been just that, found a way to escalate. Olivia and Joan's feud was deeply amplified by the parallel Hollywood careers. This was only the beginning of a fight that, according to Fontaine, had never existed.
Perhaps the toughest moment for these sisters was when Fontaine was forced to take her stepfather's surname so as to avoid a confusion in Hollywood. Oh... We almost forgot! There was also this tiny moment when Fotaine won an Academy Award before her sister, in 1942. De Havilland got a little revenge in 1947 when, after winning two Oscars, she publicly snubbed her sister when she tried to congratulate her. Ouch!
#21. Debbie Reynolds And Elizabeth Taylor
When Elizabeth Taylor's husband died in a tragic plane crash in 1958, she looked for some comfort in Eddie Fisher. The singer and the actress ended up getting married. Their love story was certainly not a perfect one, due to one small detail... Fisher was still married to Debbie Reynolds when he and Elizabeth started seeing each other.
The worst part of this situation was when Fisher divorced Reynolds in 1959. Not only did he end the marriage, he also left Carrie and Todd, their two children, behind. Fortunately for everyone, the actresses made up and even ended up working together in a film called These Old Broads, which was directed by Carrie Fisher.
#20. Muhammad Ali And Joe Frazier
These two boxers' epic rivalry began when they faced each other off at Madison Square Garden in 1971. Although sometimes things get heated pretty quickly between boxers, there were some underlying reasons Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier didn't get along.
The main reason for the rivalry was a political one. And that remained the main reason the pair never got over their differences. During their third and final match-up Ali would repeatedly refer to his rival with the racially charged term "gorilla". As you can imagine, Frazier was furious and his anger towards Ali never disappeared. In fact, in his 1996's autobiography, Frazier mentioned that he still held a grudge against Ali.
#19. Anthony Bourdain And Guy Fieri
This feud started in 2015, when chef an TV personality Anthony Bourdain had allegedly called restaurateur and TV host Guy Fieri a "douche" on a show of his stand up tour. Like any of us would, Fieri didn't appreciate for this term and, in return, he told GQ that he thought Bourdain must have some issues that make him behave that way.
This rivalry reached its peak in 2016 when it was revealed that, although he said he wanted to let their feud rest and called for a truce, some weeks before that, Bourdain had some pretty inappropriate words when he referred to Fieri. Apparently, he told Adweek that to his mind, Fieri was someone worthy of solid relentless mocking. Ouch!
#18. Kobe Bryant And Shaquille O'Neal
The basquetball world was taken by surprise when, in 2003, Shaquille O'Neal referred to the Lakers as "his" team. Shortly after, during an interview with ESPN and Jim Gray, Kobe Bryant implied that O'Neal might have been milking his toe injury a little too much. After this interview, Shaq wasn't pleased and threatened Bryant's life.
After many ups and downs the two basketball stars ended up fixing things. They reconciled in 2015, during an episode of O'Neal's The Big Podcast With Shaq. There, Bryant told O'Neal that their disagreement was merely work related, and so the stars were happy to bury the hatchet and let people know that neither of them hated each other.
#17. Biggie Smalls And Tupac
This was hip hop's most infamous rivalry. It began in 1994 when, after Tupac Shakur was not only robbed but also shot five times in the lobby of a recording studio in New York. A reporter from Los Angeles Times alleged that Notorious B.I.G was well aware of what was going to happen. It has been said he knew about it about a week in advance. Although this was never confirmed by the authorities, the rumor was enough to start the legendary East Coast/West Coast feud.
The feud obviously had its peak moment. It was in 1995, at the Source Awards. Even though no one was hurt and there was no physical violence, things did reach a pretty intense level of aggression. The artists' crews drew intense lines so as to attack each other. The years have passed, but despite the deaths of both rappers, there was no lost love between them, so the rivalry was far from over. In fact, it still remains as biggest East Coast/West Coast feud of all times.
#16. Jay Z And Nas
Both Nas and Jay Z have been fighting each other for the title of King Of New York since 1996 and, although their dispute was settled during their 2005 performance at a Philadelphia concert, the rap stars have spent a good amount of rhymes beefing each other over the years. And there have been several moments when we thought things couldn't go any further, yet they did.
The toughest moment, however, was the time Jay Z released "Takeover", which was definitely a blatant call-out to Nas, who wasted no time and released "Ether" as a response. The song is still considered the ultimate diss track of rap and hip hop history.
#15. Michael Jackson And Prince
This iconic pop feud first started when MJ and Prince's albums (Thriller and 1999, respectively) rivaled each other on the charts in 1982. That was the moment that give birth to this pop rivalry. Both pop stars found themselves on a constant battle. Whether it came in the form of a (not-so-friendly) ping-pong battle or on subliminal lines in their songs, Michael Jackson and Prince wouldn't let things cool off.
Even though there have been some rumors about how sad Prince was when Jackson died, things have never been smooth before that. The peak of their feud is believed to be the moment Prince turned down Wesley Snipes' role in MJ's 1987 Bad music video. However, some people think the pettiest moment of their fight was when Prince decided to play his bass guitar right in front of Jackson's face during a concert.
#14. Diana And Charles
Oh well, what's a countdown list of celebrity feuds without a royal scandal, right? Lucky for you, we have included the top royal scandal of all times. Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage and posterior divorce was the talk of the town or shall we say, kingdom?
Diana was seen visiting the Taj Mahalalone during the royal couple's 1992 tour of India. This immediately sparked some rumors about their marriage. Allegedly, Diana was angry at him because Charles still had feelings for Camilla Parker-Bowles. As you know, the royal couple announced their separation in 1992. Several years later, and after Diana's passing, Charles and Camilla ended up tying the knot.
#13. Axl Rose And Slash
This was one of the most epic celebrity feuds of all time. Axl Rose and Slash's beef began, according to their former manager, when Slash said he would collaborate with Michal Jackson. After hearing that, Axl Rose took issue with Slash's decision to work with Jackson. Let's not forget that Rose was a victim of sexual abuse when he was a child, and Michael Jackson was widely rumored to have had inappropriate sexual relationship with children at that time.
As all of us know, not only did Slash and Rose bury the hatchet, they also ended up touring together several times and playing on many festivals and concerts as the Guns N' Roses once again. But just because they have made up several years ago, that doesn't mean that things weren't serious at the time. In fact, when Slash left the band in 1996, he had no intention to return.
#12. Madonna And Courtney Love
90's kids, we bet you remember how this feud started. The year was 1995 and Madonna was giving Kurt Loder an interview during the MTV Video Music Awards. Everything was going as normal as possible when, suddenly, Courtney Love abruptly interrupted her. Her entrance was everything but welcome.
Madonna was not happy at all. She even noted that Love was "in dire need of attention." Ouch. But that was not all. Madonna was so upset that, in 1996 during an interview with Spin, she said that Courtney would take every chance she got to slag her off in the press. She continued saying that she though Love probably wanted to destroy her. So, as you can figure, these two singers don't see eye to eye at all.
#11. Shannen Doherty And Jennie Garth
As we reach the middle of our list, there was no way we weren't going to mention this epic feud. Their TV rivalry was what every fan of 90210 enjoyed watching, right? Brenda and Kelly fighting each other for the love of Dylan was what every fan of the show expected to see on almost every episode.
Just when we thought things couldn't get any more dramatic, Jenny Garth revealed that they were rivals not only on TV but also in real life. Gladly for them, and for every fan of the show, the two ended up solving their issues after an emotional Instagram post where Garth dedicated some loving words to former co-star Doherty, who was on a long battle against breast cancer.
#10. Mariah Carey And Jennifer Lopez
We told you this one was legendary! We're pretty sure you're deeply familiarized with Mariah's iconic phrase "I don't know her," aren't you? Well, this is where it all began. The year was 2001, and, according to some rumors, Lopez had stolen Carey's idea to sample Yellow Magic Orchestra's "Firecracker" in a song. To make things even worse, J Lo was working with Mimi's ex husband, Tommy Motola.
This situation led to Mariah's epic answer when she was asked whether or not she would like to collaborate with Jennifer Lopez someday. Several years later, Carey tried to ease the situation a bit by saying that she did know who J Lo was, but she wasn't going to lie by saying that the knew each other in person, when (according to Mimi) they actually didn't.
#9. Tom Cruise And Brooke Shields
This fight between actors started in 2005, when Tom Cruise had some very strong words regarding Brooke Shields' use of antidepressants. Shields had opened up about her postpartum depression and how antidepressants had been helping her during those difficult times. Cruise, being a devout Scientologist, slammed her for using mind-altering medication.
Some years ago, the stars made amends when Tom showed up to Brooke's house and gave her a heartfelt apology for his behavior. But this didn't happen without Shields sharing her opinion, too. She suggested that Cruise stick to other things ( such as saving the world from aliens, as she said) and let women deal with postpartum depression the way the consider is best for them.
#8. Jay Leno And David Letterman
We all remember that time Johnny Carson retired from NBC's Tonight Show, right? We also remember how everyone thought that David Letterman would be his replacement. Since he had already hosted Late Night with David Letterman, also from NBC. However, things took a turn when the network decided to go with Leno, setting off what was later known as the "late-night wars."
Despite all the drama, Letterman and Leno didn't stay stuck on this conflict. Well, at least that's what we believe, due to the fact that in a 2012 interview, Letterman referred to Leno as the funniest guy he has ever known. There was a moment of tension, though when in 2013, The Late Show with David Letterman aired on CBS at the same time as Leno's The Tonight Show.
#7. Aretha Franklin And Tina Turner
Little did Beyonce know that when she introduced Tina Turner as "the Queen" at the 2008 Grammys, she would unleash a war between these two equally talented singers. There were some comments Tina Turner and Aretha Franklyn made about each other that have made it impossible for this feud to be over.
In what seemed to be an attempt to let things go and make amends, Tina Turner said that while she was the queen of rock 'n' roll, Franklyn the queen of soul. Had this been it, the feud would have been put to rest. However, Turner continued and said some not-so-nice comments about Aretha's ego. Aretha didn't stay quiet and referred to this a Turner's way to boost ticket sales. Needless to say, the singers never settled the dispute.
#6. Donald Trump And Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie O'Donnell criticized Trump in 2006 on The View for not firing that year's Miss USA over revelations regarding her alcohol and drug abuse. Trump responded quickly by calling O'Donnell "a woman out of control, a real loser, and a pig." The issue didn't stop there, and both celebrities continued attacking each other on what was a very heated Twitter war.
Far from trying to bury the hatchet, during the first presidential debate in 2016, Trump brought up Rossie O'Donnell and said that everyone would agree that she deserved everything he had said about her. He also added that nobody felt sorry for her. Rosie O'Donnel responded and is still an active Trump detractor on Twitter.
#5. Heather Locklear And Denise Richards
Heather Locklear and Denise Richards used to be friends. They met in 2001, after Richards was a guest star on Locklear's show, Spin City. Their friendship seemed to be a very solid one, after Heather stood by Denise's side throughout her divorce from Charlie Sheen. What could possibly destroy this friendship? Well, apparently, Locklear decided she wanted nothing to do with Richards after she was spotted with Richie Sambora.
Heather and Richie were still married at that time. Things were pretty uncomfortable for a while between the two stars, and during many interviews there were many "he said-she said" moments. Luckily for them, the fight is now in the past and there seems to be no animosity between them.
#4. Lauren Conrad And Spencer Pratt
Every fan of The Hills surely remembers this epic fight! It all began after LC's former best friend, Heidi Montag, started dating Spencer Pratt in 2007. Pratt and Lauren never ended up getting along, and this led to one of the most epic feuds of pop culture. Needless to say, Conrad and Montag's friendship ceased to exist and continues that way.
The peak moment of this fight was the one surrounding LC and an alleged sex tape between her and ex boyfriend Jason Wahler. Said tape never existed. However, Spencer Pratt didn't miss any opportunity to let the rumors spread. In fact, many sources (including LC herself!) have held Pratt accountable for this nasty rumor.
#3. Gwyneth Paltrow And Martha Stewart
When domestic goddess Martha Stewart called out Gwyneth Paltrow in a 2014 interview we were all taken by surprise. Stewart told Porter Magazine that Paltrow "needed to be quiet." She continued saying that if she were confident with her job as an actress, she wouldn't be "trying to be the next Martha Stewart." While Paltrow seemed to be kinda glad that Martha saw her as competition, she didn't hesitate and quickly clapped back.
She answered sarcastically about how sad Martha's comments made her feel. After that, both stars proceeded to do some shade throwing at each other on their respective media sites. One would think that after this intense war they would want to end things, right? Well, apparently that is not the case, as the feud remains.
#2. Taylor Swift And Katy Perry
We have to admit that this is a fight that we thought would last forever. Turns out it didn't and the singers finally gave us the friendship we wanted and even let us see it in Taylor's You Need To Calm Down video. But... What went down between these two? They used to be friends, but when Katy started dating John Meyer (Swift's ex) in 2012, it was the beginning of the end.
But, according to Swift, what really happened had nothing to do with a guy and was purely work related. Some sources have revealed that this feud was born after Perry had approached some of Taylor's dancers (who were currently on tour with Swift) to join her on tour. After some cryptic tweets and shady song lyrics, we figured these two would never become friends again. Luckily for the pop world, they did!
#1. Taylor Swift And Kimye
Of course this feud was going to be #1 of our list! Taylor Swift and Kimye's beef began after he interrupted her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Music Awards. Taylor was perplexed (an so were we and everyone else watching the show) when Kanye abruptly went on stage to say how Beyoncé should have won instead of her.
Even though Taylor and Kanye briefly stayed as friends after that incident, thing took at turn when he chose to name-check her with a vulgar lyric on his song "Famous". Things continued to go downhill when Kim Kardashian revealed a video where Swift and West were heard talking about the song before it was released. Taylor defended herself and said that while she did know about the song, she wasn't informed about the vocabulary Kanye used to refer to her. We're Team Taylor on this one, what about you?
